Team Phoenix held another successful Artistic Swimming clinic on the 27 and 28 May at Curro Rivonia School. As part of our goal to grow the sport in the CGA district and introduce the sport to a wide range of young athletes, our clinics have proven to be popular with enthusiastic beginners. 18 young swimmers participated as well as 6 coaches who had come through the Team Phoenix coaches training courses - which was particularly gratifying.
This clinic also doubled as a fund raiser for our athletes who have qualified to attend the World Championships in Japan in July. With no funding or assistance, the athletes need to self fund their participation at these competitions. Every little bit helps and we raised just over R10 000 to fund their training and competition costs - thank you to all those who attended and donated so generously.
Our two senior athletes, Laura and Jess with coach Vicky ran the clinic, teaching new skills and putting together a simple routine to introduce a new group of youngsters to the sport. Thanks to all the coaches who also assisted either in the water or on the side to make the clinic such a success.
Our thanks to Curro Rivonia for the use of their wonderful facility.
